| Planet Bamboo is a musical group based in Ubud-Bali,
where it was founded in 1999, that brings together musical elements
from all around the world to produce a range of unique compositions.
Because most of the members of the group are Indonesians, the most
prominent musical elements are taken from traditional Balinese and
Javanese music. However, the group's music has also been influenced
by Arabic, Indian, African and other musical styles. In most of
the compositions, the percussive element is an outstanding characteristic.
The instruments used by the group are also very international. The
common tie between all instruments being that they are all accoustic.
The group chose the name "Planet Bamboo" to promote
the "Cross Ethnic" concept.
The name "Planet" refers to music and
a group of people that are openminded and international. "Bamboo"
refers to the group's musical instruments, many of which are made
from bamboo or other traditional materials.
All songs are created in collaboration by the members of Planet
Bamboo under the musical leadership of Arif Hendrasto. Some of the
compositions are illustrated by dancers while performing on stage. |
