Morgan Freeman
Name : Morgan Freeman
Height : 6' 2½" (189 cm)
Date of Birth : 1 June 1937
Place of Birth : Memphis, Tennessee, USA

Biography:

The Memphis-born Morgan Freeman studied at the Los Angeles Community College before joining the Air Force from 1955 to 1959. After getting his start on the stage, Freeman worked on television and made his film debut in 1971 in Who Says I Can't Ride a Rainbow? In 1980, he garnered praise for his work in the prison drama Brubaker and gained additional recognition for his work on the daytime drama Days of Our Lives from 1982 to 1984.

Freeman's next films were nothing special until he played the dangerously emotional pimp in Street Smart (1987) and earned his first Oscar nomination. His film career took off as expected and he later appeared in such excellent films as Clean and Sober (1988) and Driving Miss Daisy (1989) in which he cast as a dignified, patient chauffeur and earned his second Oscar nomination. That same year, he played a tough and cynical gravedigger who joins a newly formed regiment of black union soldiers in Glory.

Later, Freeman appeared in such films as Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991) in which he played Robin's sidekick, and Unforgiven (1992). In 1993, he made his directorial debut with Bopha!, a film about a South African cop separated from his son by apartheid. The next year, Freeman received his third Oscar nomination as an aged lifer in the prison drama The Shawshank Redemption.

Freeman then turned in memorable performances in films such as Seven (1995) in which he played a world-weary detective; Amistad (1997) which featured him as a former slave; the thriller Kiss the Girls (1997) in which he played a police detective Alex Cross; and the blockbuster Deep Impact (1998) that cast Freeman as the President of the United States.

After starring opposite Renee Zellweger in Nurse Betty (2000), Freeman returned to the role of detective Alex Cross in the Kiss the Girls sequel Along Came a Spider (2001). He went on to keep a high profile with roles in such thrillers as The Sum of All Fears (2002) and Dreamcatcher (2003).

After Freeman appearing opposite Hillary Swank and Clint Eastwood in the acclaimed boxing drama Million Dollar Baby (2004), his status as one of Hollywood's hard-working and most respected actors was finally cemented when he won the Oscar for his powerful performance in the film.
